Displaying first aid posters on notice boards provides staff and visitors with valuable knowledge that could save a colleague from prolonged severe pain or even the loss of sight. Many people read posters simply out of curiosity and boredom, therefore displaying health and safety notices in areas like waiting rooms, staff rooms, toilets etc. enable these crutial messages to be read. This first aid poster specifically covers the treatment of the eyes. We believe that everyone should have a basic knowledge of first aid.

This poster includes a QR code which can be scanned using a smart phone or tablet, once scanned a video will be played to give further knowledge and clear first aid advice.

This poster states:

FOREIGN BODY IN EYE: Symptoms - Blurred vision, Discomfort, Watering and redness of eye.
Treatment - No rubbing of the eye, Gently part the eyelids and examine the eye, Use eyewash to flush out foreign body, If the foreign body does not move or is embedded into the eye, ask casualty to hold sterile dressing over eye to help reduce eye movement. Sent / take the casualty to hospital.

CHEMICAL BURN TO THE EYE: Symptoms - Pain and Discomfort, Blurred Vision, Eyelid Swelling.
Treatment - Flush the eye with eyewash or clean water for at least 15minutes. Apply an eye pad or sterile dressing over both eyes to reduce movement. Send / take the casualty to hospital. If necessary continue to flush the eye.

BLOW TO THE EYE: Redness around the eye, Pain and Discomfort.
Treatment - Gently apply a cold pack to the eye. Seek medical advice / treatment if there is reduced vision, bruising or pain.

WOUNDED EYE: A visible wound, Leakage of fluid or blood, Bloodshot appearance, Intense pain and discomfort.
DO NOT - Flush eye with eyewash / water. Attempt to remove anything embedded in the eye
Treatment - Lay the person flat on their back. Tell the casualty to keep their eyes still to prevent further damage. Apply an eye pad or sterile dressing over both eyes to reduce movement. Sent / take the causality to hospital
